The Stretched Barrier
I crossed the wooden expanse of the coffee table. A thick green rubber band was looped around an empty ceramic coaster. I stepped forward and shoved the band with both hands. It stretched wide, digging into my palms before violently snapping forward. The coaster slid two inches across the polished grain and stopped dead. I held my stance. The barrier did not throw me back. Now the far rim of the table is clear.
