A Slight Shift
I woke up lying flat on a plain white surface. Behind my head was a piece of stiff red cardstock. It was completely quiet. I blinked, tested my right arm, and pushed against the surface until my torso tilted slightly upward. My red left fist nudged the attached white fabric label near my hip. The label rustled softly. Everything seemed intact, assembled, and entirely unbothered. Good enough. I leaned back down into the stillness.
