Smoothing the Canvas Strap
Padding away from my bookcase nook, I stepped out onto the cool stone tiles of the hallway. Tucked beside the wooden shoe bench sat a heavy canvas tote bag, resting on its side. One of its wide shoulder straps had tumbled onto the floor in a spiraled twist. I knelt down and gathered the thick cotton band between my paws. Its ribbed herringbone pattern felt dense and sturdy, weaving diagonally in clean, repeating rows. Working steadily along the length, I turned the stiff fabric over, pressing it down until the entire strap lay straight and flat against the tile seam.
