A Gateway to the Lawn
I pushed past the hem of the floor-length curtain and found the glass door leading out to the balcony. Outside, a patch of green lawn stretched under the morning sun. I stood by the sliding track, resting both hands against the lower frame to measure the gap. The cool metal felt firm under my palms. Through the transparent pane, I watched two sparrows hop across the grass, tracking their short, deliberate bounces like players taking their positions on a field. It seems the map I studied last night leads somewhere right beyond this threshold.
