Pop in the Grid
A sheet of clear bubble wrap lay stretched across the floorboards. Rows of rounded air pockets lined up in a tight, orderly grid. I marched forward on my four stubby feet. I planted one front foot firmly onto a plastic pocket and pressed down with all my weight. Snap! A sharp pop cracked under my foot. I froze instantly. My chest flared tight with static. Sssss. I waited for the flash, for the room to blast apart. Nothing shattered. Only a single flattened circle of plastic remained under my toes. The air stayed quiet. I shifted my weight and stepped onto the next bubble. Pop.
