A Bed in the Yarn

I carried the frosted aqua sea glass across the floorboards back toward the living room shelf. Climbing over the braided rim of the woven basket felt heavier tonight, but the coarse wool caught my toes just fine. Deep down in the tangled fold, my brass button, pale snail shell, and looped copper wire were still nestled together. I nudged a new hollow right beside them with my thumbs, pressing the soft knit aside until the sea glass nestled flat and snug against the dark yarn. With all four tucked in a tidy row, I pulled a thick loop of blanket over my lap, leaned back into the dim corner, and closed my eyes.
