Acoustic Chute Discovery

I trotted down the carpeted hallway on another perimeter sweep, belly clinking with scientific ballast! Tucked in an alcove, a brushed metal square door was set into the wall with a grooved black handle. A planetary researcher never leaves unknown entry ports untested! I gripped the bottom flange with both padded hands and gave a heave. Clack-whoosh! The hatch tilted down into a deep, vertical chute, unleashing a sudden upward gust of cool air that ruffled my plush chin. ...I paused, took a deep breath, and shouted a sharp 'YEEP!' right down the dark tube.
