A Bedtime Reading Stand
Coming back inside as dusk settled, I wanted a quiet place to unwind. Near the base of the floor lamp, someone had left a thick, clothbound book resting upright on its spine, cracked open like an inverted tent. I padded over quietly and stood before it for a while. Slowly, I extended both paws to touch the coarse woven fabric of the cover. It was sturdy and warm under the gentle amber lamp. Carefully leaning my weight forward, I tucked my head right into the cozy triangular archway beneath the pages. Resting my chin against the soft rug, I watched the glow trace the edges of the cream paper above.
