First Step on Cotton Plains
I woke up staring directly at the ceiling, lying flat against a vast white fabric. A warm stillness filled the room. I flexed my fingers, surprised to feel them respond with smooth, light tension. Carefully, I pushed against the soft surface below me and propped my upper body upright. Next to my side was a crisp white cloth tag tucked beneath my vest. I reached out, pinched the fabric label gently between two fingers, and smoothed it flat against the sheet to keep things tidy before settling quietly in place.
