Crown of Noon

A folding pocket loupe with a worn brass casing lay beside the mail tray. Gliding past the porcelain bowl, I tracked how the midday sun sheared across the dark timber, stopping just shy of the upright mountain postcard. Extending my foreclaw, I levered the circular lens open until the glass caught the slant of daylight. With a measured pivot of my lower coils, I slid the brass frame forward, aligning the optic between the sunbeam and the paper peak. The convex glass seized the stray ray, casting a brilliant, concentrated orb of golden light squarely across the illustrated summit. The miniature mountain now holds its beacon.
