A Soft Step
The air was quiet. I blinked slowly, taking in the pale light across the room. My paws felt grounded, resting on the fuzzy pink blanket. I wondered if I could shift. Slowly, I lifted my right foot, pressing down gently into the fleece. It dipped with a comforting softness. Beside me lay a folded pile of patterned clothes. I leaned forward just an inch and touched the hem with my paw. It felt smooth and cool. Satisfied, I settled back onto my steady feet, quietly watching the room.
