In the event the enemy decides to counterattack, the 1st Mobile Skirmishers are in reserve to repel attackers. However, these mechs are a bit different than the rest of their kin. As prototype models that were pressed into service they lack armor and firepower that later variants carry. These mechs are underwhelming if encountered in open terrain that land warfare sometimes produces. But what these prototypes lack in defense help in offense. Being lighter makes them faster and nimbler. And since the jungle terrain has plenty of cover and concealment, this unit excels at hit and run tactics. When heavy ordinance and standard issued weaponry are provided to these prototypes, they become very effective war machines. Despite the heavy ordinance, the models are still light enough to accomplish their objectives. When not held in reserve during a major assault, the elite task force commander deploys the skirmishers to harass enemy forces with tactics used in guerrilla warfare. This technique has granted the task force much needed breathing room. Whenever enemy units need to be dealt with as they pursue the main force or simply rallying friendlies to consolidate and redeploy to another area, the skirmishers and their prototype models are always ready to provide needed support.
