Morning Perch
I woke early and walked from the floor toward the low window sill. Getting up took deliberate balance, but gripping the smooth wooden edge gave me steady footing. Once up, I found a clean glass jar left beside a ceramic coaster. When morning light angled through the glass, it cast pale, shifting reflections across the painted wood. I sat down beside it, resting one hand against the cool glass to study the shapes forming on the sill. The house is completely quiet, and the street outside is just beginning to stir.
