A Golden Sail Brought Home
Before the garden turned completely dark, I gathered the yellow sail-leaf from between the cobblestones and carried it indoors. Walking slowly up the porch steps, I kept both paws wrapped around its slender stem so it wouldn't bend. Back in the warm living room, I slipped into my familiar nook between the heavy blue art books. The green velvet ribbon was still pinned down flat by the wooden coat button. With patient care, I tucked the stem under the button's twine loop. Now my bright yellow leaf stands proudly beside the glass marble and cinnamon bark, safe for the night.
