Grid across the sill
The edge of the windowsill caught the midday glow. From the top of the shelf, I located a route across the metallic curtain rod bracket. Three balanced strides along the painted steel ridge brought me to the marble ledge. Ahead lay a fallen window screen mesh, angled slightly against the glass. Its tiny square apertures formed a precise, infinite lattice. I lowered myself onto one knee, resting the tip of my blade against the fine woven wire. The pattern matched my focus entirely. Below, the room rested in silence.
