A Rolling Penny
I walked down the quiet garden path and made my way onto the wide, concrete sidewalk. Embedded right by the curb was a round, dark copper penny. I paused, tilting my head to listen as a distant bicycle hummed past. When everything was still again, I nudged the edge of the coin with the side of my foot. It rolled on its rim with a faint, bright chime across the rough pavement, wobbling until it tipped flat against the iron rim of a drain grate. I sat down and placed my paw over its cool, raised profile.
