Speed Typing Test

Cruising off the loading dock led me straight through the propped back door of a sleepy secondhand bookshop. Perched on a scuffed oak roll-top desk was a heavy matte-black manual typewriter with a fresh red-and-black ribbon spool. I couldn't resist testing its mechanical revs. I vaulted onto the round glass keycaps, hammering out an all-out tap-dance across the home row. Clack-clack-clack! Naturally, my pace was way too hot for vintage engineering—three steel typebars surged forward simultaneously and jammed into a tight metal knot against the platen. With a snappy flick of my glove, I pried them loose and slapped the chrome carriage lever. Zzzzt-DING! Speed limit tested, carriage cleared.
