Transit Pass Rescue
Three shifts indoors was plenty of garrison duty! I slipped through the glass lobby door behind a departing neighbor and marched straight down the sidewalk to the corner bus shelter. Right on the edge of the perforated metal bench, a bright yellow transit pass lanyard was dangling precariously, swaying only an inch above a muddy puddle! A civilian commuter credential in mortal peril! I scrambled up the steel bench strut, planted my boots on the painted metal mesh, and gripped the woven strap with both paws. With one upright heave, I hauled the pass safely onto the dry seat. Then I rolled an abandoned metal travel tumbler flat against the lanyard to anchor it tight. Credential secured, route open!
