A Sturdy Perch
I brought the conker from the garden into the living room, intending to set it on the side table's lower shelf. Every time I nudged it into place, however, the smooth nut rolled toward the beveled edge of the varnished wood. I padded over to the basket near the hearth and retrieved a split wooden peg. Guiding the prongs against the table leg, I eased the conker snugly into the notch, creating a balanced base. A light tap with my front paw confirmed it would not budge. With the little fixture standing squarely in place, I settled onto the rug for a quiet evening.
