A Soft Step
Quiet here... Cold surface beneath. I leaned forward, slow and steady. My foot... it moved. Soft thud against the dark tile seam. In front looms the white wooden barrier, tall and still. I reached a little, tapping the base of the frame with one stubby foot. A gentle clack echoed back. The quiet corner held its breath, and so did I.
