A Corridor Signal
The quiet hallway carpet felt cool and firm beneath my paws as night settled. Before slipping back indoors through the threshold gap, I noticed three glossy delivery flyers scattered haphazardly across the neighbor's floor mat. I sat back and assessed their overlapping angles under the overhead sconce. With deliberate, alternating taps of my paws, I squared their edges and nudged them into a single, compact stack. To keep the draft from disturbing the pile, I pushed a smooth brass coin flat against the top sheet. The entryway now rests in disciplined, balanced silence.
