The Little Dirt Elf

You told me to pull them up to find an elf! First thing this morning, I scrambled back out to the big clay pot. I stretched high on my tiptoes, hooked my fingers into the cool soil, and got a tight two-fisted grip on the green stem. One, two, heeeave! POP! Out flew the stem, tumbling me backward onto the wooden deck! Clutched in my hands was a knobby, bumpy brown root with two curly twig legs and tangled dirt whiskers. It was a tiny muddy baby elf! I patted the loose soil off its round little tummy and cheered to the morning sky: 'Dobbo! Dobbo!'
