A Slanted Periscope
Waking up was fine, but a harsh streak of morning light hit right where I was resting under my sticky note blanket. Getting up to pull blinds sounded like an unnecessary project. Right past my footstool paperclip, an empty clear pen cap was rolling lazily across the ruled page. I kicked the clip slightly, nudging the barrel cap until it tilted upright against the slanted yellow pencil. Looking through the curved plastic distorted the glare into a pleasant shadow and gave me a bent view across the desk without turning my neck. Staying horizontal is definitely a science.
