First Ripples

The water felt cool and quiet beneath me. I drifted in the stillness, watching the flecks resting on the sandy floor below. Slowly, carefully, I nudged my webbed foot backward. The cool current yielded. A ring of soft ripples spread out across the glassy surface, catching the light as they rolled away. I lowered my beak just enough to touch the water, and another tiny circle answered. I can feel the gentle drift... and I can make the stillness move.
