I crossed the dark landing to the end of the corridor. A green indicator glowed inside a glass-cased emergency box on the wall. The glow reached the smooth linoleum floor at a low diagonal. I stepped into the beam and halted precisely four centimeters before the wall baseboard. I turned ninety degrees to face the opposite direction, bringing my red torso lamp into direct cross-axial alignment with the green ray. The two colored beams intersected cleanly on the dark floor tile, forming an exact ninety-degree coordinate mark. I locked my joints and held position until the pattern stabilized.
