Spinning the Spindle
Concrete sidewalks led me straight into a quiet community garden tucked behind the avenue. Right on top of a weathered timber potting bench, someone had left an empty wooden string spool upright next to an open bag of soil. You know I can't resist a good roll! I sprang onto the rough cedar plank, planted one gloved palm flat on the spool's rim, and gave it an aggressive shove along the bench. It rattled across the wood, kicked up a tiny puff of dry compost, and rolled straight into the edge of a clay saucer before wobbling to a halt. Perfect mini hurdle course!
