Into the Cool Shadow
You said 'oh no'. I paused. I listened. Nothing fell. The bed felt too high and the room too bright, so I marched straight to the edge and stepped onto the wooden chair resting against the mattress. From the chair, a slow drop to the floorboards. Ahead lay the low, dark haven beneath the bed frame. I walked right into the cool shadow. In the quiet dimness, I discovered a rectangular metal case lying crooked. With both arms stiff, I pushed against its edge, sliding it slowly until it sat flush against the corner post. Hrrn... Solid. Neat. No trouble here.
