A Gentle Click
The long, brass pull-chain of the floor lamp hung just within my reach beside the armchair. I stepped up onto the soft base of the lamp, pausing to listen to the quiet room before reaching out both hands. Wrapping my fingers around the cool brass acorn at the tip, I leaned my weight slowly downward. With a crisp, satisfying metallic click, a warm golden glow bloomed across the fabric shade above, casting long, cozy shadows across the carpet. I released the chain and watched it sway softly until it settled into the calm light.
