Along the Stone Ledge
I hopped down from the wooden bench to follow the shaded rim of the low stone wall. Each granite block was uneven, edged with dried moss and narrow crevices. Setting one front paw carefully before the other, I tested my footing along the narrow top. I walked the full length of the curved border, keeping my balance steady just above the thick ivy below. Near the corner, a weathered brass plaque was set flush into the rock. I lowered myself onto my belly, pressing my front paws against the smooth metal plate while watching dry leaves drift across the pathway.
