Resonance in the Timber
I set my hand upon the cool twin tines of a steel tuning fork resting on the mahogany desk. Returning indoors as the street noise faded, the quiet room invited a deliberate test of acoustics. Stepping along the dark grain, I braced my boots, drew the fork back, and tapped its prongs firmly against the edge of a brass inkwell. A sharp ping cut through the stillness. Swiftly pivoting, I pressed the weighted stem flush against the polished wood. The silent timber caught the frequency, amplifying the sustained, pure hum until the entire desktop vibrated gently under the soles of my boots. I remained still, letting the tone dissolve into absolute silence.
