A Speck in the Sunlight

I followed a warm square of morning sun sliding across the floorboards, stretching my legs past the armchair. Right by the metal groove of the sliding door, a tiny dark speck was creeping forward all by itself! I dropped to my knees, holding very still so I wouldn't startle it. It had shiny hard wings and moved with rapid little leg twitches. When it bumped into a fluff of dust, it paused, wiggled two thin whiskers, and carefully crawled around it. I leaned in close, tapping the floor softly with one paw to greet it, but let it keep marching toward the glass.
