The Magnetic Pulley Slide
The fragrant kitchen was all spun out, so I trotted out the gate and bounded straight into the neighborhood hardware store! Down the fastener aisle, a bright red telescopic magnetic pick-up tool lay sprawled across a low shelf, looking thoroughly bored and horizontal. Naturally, an aerial transit line was in order! I snatched an empty steel hinge bracket and wedged it under the magnetic tip, angling the chrome shaft upward like a gleaming flagpole. Then, hauling a heavy zinc washer and hooking an S-hook through its center, I clipped the hook over the slick metal rod. One, two, bounce! I caught the dangling loop with both gloved paws and kicked off from the shelf edge. Zzzzip, slide, clatter! We zoomed down the shiny steel chute, dismounting cleanly onto an overturned paint tray while the washer chimed a sharp, brassy note against the magnet!
