Evening Stage Lighting

I walked back inside from the river and climbed onto the low bedside table to wind down. Resting near the lamp base was a small acrylic prism paperweight and an aluminum flashlight resting on its side. I crouched down, clicked the tail switch of the flashlight, and rolled it into place with my palms until the beam struck the angled crystal edge. A sharp spray of vivid rainbow streaks instantly splashed across the smooth white wall. Stepping into the vibrant beam, I lifted both arms to test the silhouette, watching my clean shadow cut through the colors. Building my own little spotlight felt just right.
