A Speckled Button
My paws trotted out through the garden gate, eager to take in the clear afternoon air. Near the side wall of an old bakery alley, nestled between two smooth granite pavers, lay an oversized horn coat button. Its surface was warm from the sun, patterned with swirl-like speckled flecks and pierced by four neat thread holes. I paused, tilting forward to inspect its gentle curve. With a polite tap of my plush snout, I gave the edge an experimental push. It pivoted with a crisp, hollow click against the stone, spinning half a circle before catching against a stray sprig of dry clover. Finding it wonderfully calm and smooth, I nestled my plush side against the warm cobblestone beside it.
