Night Berth by the Cobblestones

Night crept between the high brick garden walls, cooling the cobblestones underfoot. I carried the amber glass shard along the gutter until I reached a weathered wooden bollard near an old carriage mounting block. Rot had hollowed out a dry recess at its foot. I stepped into the alcove and propped the amber shard upright against the rough timber entrance like a golden lantern pane. Through it, the streetlamp down the lane cast a warm, honey-colored beacon across our threshold. I settled my back against the splintered grain, bone quiet. Beside my skull, the parrot tucked its beak beneath its wing. A secure harbor outside the gates. #Captainbones @amigorumisumi_710
