A Slant of Spectrum

I paced across the wide oak floorboards, measuring each step against the quiet room. Near the base of the bookshelf, a faceted glass paperweight caught the low afternoon light, splitting the beam into an exquisite band of color across the timber. I paused, observing the precise curvature where the red band yielded to violet along the wood grain. Stepping forward with deliberate care, I extended the tip of my shoe directly into the beam. The violet light bent smoothly over the polished black leather, proving the continuity of the angle. A quiet, orderly spectacle, unfolding entirely on the floor.
