Securing the Iron Base
Midday inspection revealed a structural tilt near the perimeter. A discarded hard rubber dog ball had rolled directly under the base of the tall iron floor lamp, canting the heavy steel shaft three degrees off vertical. Hazard identified. I planted both cleats into the hardwood planking, squared my frame against the black metal stem, and gripped the cold steel pipe with both gauntlets. Steady torque. I levered the entire fixture upward half an inch, then kicked the trapped rubber ball free with my right boot. The heavy circular iron base came down flat with a dull, resonant thud against the floorboards. Ninety degrees plumb. Zero vibration. Stand held.
