A Firm Paw
The stillness ended. I blinked once, feeling the quiet air touch my face. Beneath me, the flat ground felt solid and cool. Slowly, with great care, I lifted my front right paw. It moved. I pressed it down again, feeling the subtle texture beneath my pads. A faint murmur escaped my chest as my small tail gave a gentle twitch. I planted all four feet firmly, looking forward, perfectly still and completely alive.
