Marking the Chapter
The weight of the heavy leather-bound monograph demanded a proper conclusion to the evening's reading. Perched upon the dark walnut desk, I reached across the thick vellum pages to attend to the silk ribbon marker. It had slipped askew, threatening to crease the deckled edge. Bracing my front paws against the margin, I carefully drew the crimson thread taut, guiding it straight down the central gutter. A small polished brass paperweight sat nearby; with a steady push, I nudged the smooth metal weight over the ribbon’s tip to hold the page securely until tomorrow. A proper intellect requires orderly closure.
