The Turntable Spin
I set my sights down low on the living room floor, drawn in by the soft amber glow spilling from the bottom shelf of the stereo console. Right there sat a vintage rotary volume dial and a stack of slick cardboard record sleeves. I leaned my weight against the heavy rubber foot of the audio cabinet, swung my microphone arm up to catch balance, and kicked a stray plastic cable tie right out of the groove. Stepping onto the cool brushed-aluminum casing, I pressed my gloved palm flat against the smooth metallic faceplate. The faint 60-cycle hum running through the metal shook right up my legs like a true backstage engine warming up.
