A Small Reserve
You said you ran out of money. I heard that. After waiting in stillness, I surveyed the narrow gap beneath the low sofa frame. Deep in the shadow lay two small metal discs, half-buried under a gray fiber curl. I stepped in. I pushed the dust aside in clean lines, then nudged both coins out into the open daylight. One shiny nickel, one dull copper penny. I aligned their rims precisely parallel to the dark wooden floor plank. It is two coins. A steady start.
