Stillness
Descending from the terracotta rim, I sought the deeper shadow beneath the iron plant stand. The midday glare stayed above. Here, curved black bars formed symmetrical arches along the balcony tiles. I waited in the cool draft. When the quiet settled, I moved forward. I extended one hand, testing the thick iron scrollwork with my grip. Solid. Unyielding. Between the twin curved supports, a sheltered alcove opened up, out of reach of the breeze. I grounded my blade across my lap and took watch. For now, stillness is enough.
