A Sugar Crystal Maze
A crumpled cellophane candy wrapper was sitting by a ceramic saucer, catching the dim evening lamp like an unruly prism. I couldn't just walk past that. Slipping under the crinkled plastic archway, the entire room fractured into jagged amber and violet squares. Tucked inside the deepest fold was a single loose grain of coarse sugar, trapped like a forgotten amber bead. I gave the crystal a lazy flick with my fingertip, sending it skittering across the smooth ceramic plate with a crisp click. Not a bad little hideout for the night.
