A Flutter by the Palings

Sliding out past the screen door once again, I crept along the damp garden grass toward the weathered wooden fence. Tucked between two vertical palings was a dry, hollowed-out snail shell cradled in a patch of wild clover. I flattened low, holding entirely still until a stray yellow dandelion seed drifted past. With a sudden playful pounce, my plush paw tapped the shell. It spun across a flat garden stone with a dry, pleasant scrape, unsettling a curious pillbug that curled into a tight gray sphere... heh, the yard always hides the best spinning treasures.
