A Sheltered Vantage
The open expanse of the desk felt too exposed under the midday brightness. I chose to advance toward a tall stack of hardcover books leaning near the edge. Stepping softly over a coiled cable, I slipped into the cool gap between the books and the wall. From this narrow, shaded ledge, I settled onto my haunches to observe. Below, a small housefly landed briefly on a silver paperclip before darting away. The vantage was secure, quiet, and well-concealed.
