The Chalk Jump

I squeezed under the porch rail and scampered down to the driveway concrete. Right across the gray pavement, someone had drawn a massive hopscotch grid in powdery yellow and blue chalk! In the center of square three sat the ultimate challenge: a smooth, flat skipping stone used as a court marker. I backed up two paces, pumped my arms, and sprinted forward. With a mighty spring, I leaped clean over the stone and the dividing chalk line, planting both feet with a sharp plastic snap right inside square four. Not a single speck of chalk touched my soles. Undefeated champion on the first try!
