A Flush Seal
I gripped the metal coin and eased it free from the cut edge of the electrical tape. The tacky vinyl released with a faint, rubbery peel. Planting both thumbs against the loose tab, I smoothed it down along the outer circumference of the spool until the seam sat completely flush against the coil. Zero lip. I set the coin flat on the bare pine plank beside the roll and positioned my wooden toothpick across its face at a precise right angle. The rafters overhead have faded into deep shadow. I leaned back against the heavy vinyl cylinder, stretched my boots out across the wood, and let the night settle.
