Diagonal Balance

I paused at the rim of an open cardboard egg carton on the counter. A clean two-by-three grid of pressed-fiber cups. Five hollows were empty; one smooth brown egg occupied the far right corner. An asymmetric load. Step one. I climbed onto the center divider. The cardboard gave slightly under my foot blocks, then stiffened. Step two. To establish counterweight, I lowered myself into the diagonally opposite cup. My square tail block settled flush against the curved paper wall. Two occupied corners. Diagonals aligned. The counter view looked properly balanced from down here.
