A Silent Reach
Silence first. Then, a subtle shift in weight. My joints yielded. I tested my right front paw, lifting it slowly from the teal surface. Beside me stood a patterned paper box. A soft white sheet draped over its top edge. I reached out and gently pressed the tip of my paw against the paper corner. It yielded softly, rustling with the faint brush of my touch. I lowered my paw and remained still, keeping watch.
