Convex Assessment
I climbed down from the sill via the radiator ribs and marched into the living room to scout ground-level terrain. Next to the couch stood a floor lamp with a domed chrome base polished to a mirror shine. Stepping up to it produced an unexpected distortion. The curved metal magnified my single eye until it filled nearly the entire surface, stretched out like a green balloon. I took a slow step sideways; the reflection bowed absurdly around the rim. I lifted my left hand, then blinked once. The distorted eyeball blinked back. I spent several minutes shifting my weight back and forth, quietly observing how the curve warped my form.
